Pros and cons of studying MBBS abroad

A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree is a popular course that Indian students opt for. However, most of the students prefer pursuing MBBS abroad after considering a range of questions. Like everything else, there are pros and cons to studying medicine abroad. Students’ decisions often weigh these pros and cons.

Dr. Ranjit AR, Academic Director of PW MedEd, highlighted some pros and cons to take into consideration:

Advantages:

Lower tuition fees: Overall, the cost of an MBBS degree at an international university is less than at a private medical school in India. Studying in another country can help students save money on both tuition and living expenses.

High-quality education: The world-class education and training at international universities with experienced faculty is what makes them suitable for students.

Cultural exposure: Students who study abroad often come home with a greater global perspective. Students can meet people from all over the world and gain insight into other cultures.

Better career prospects: With a degree from a foreign university and the right use of resources in the country abroad, it can help students achieve wonders in life.

Disadvantages:

Language Barrier: Many courses at international universities are provided in English. This can be a big problem for international students who are not well-versed in English. The quality of education and the academic performance of students can be negatively impacted due to language barriers.

Recognition and Licensure: For foreign medical school graduates to be able to practise medicine in India, they must pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). The FMGE test is quite difficult to clear, which ultimately acts as a barrier.

High level of competition: There is a lot of competition for MBBS programmes at foreign colleges, and the admissions process is quite strict. Students must have a strong academic record and show exceptional skills and abilities in order to get admission.

Conclusion:

To conclude, students need to plan their decisions carefully and consider whether they wish to pursue their education at universities abroad or in India. However, students need to consider various factors, including academic goals, language proficiency, finances, and much more. It is advisable to make an informed decision.
