The United States remains the top choice for Indian students

The United States continues to be the preferred destination for international students. There has been an all-time high in the number of Indian students who have opted to study in the United States. As per the data, the US has again gained the crown of being the most popular destination for international students.

With the end of the fiscal year on March 31, education loan providers saw a substantial rise in the number of students choosing financial assistance to study in the United States compared to the previous year. Reportedly, around 200,000 Indian students chose the United States as their study destination in the academic year 2021–22. This marks an increase of 19 percent over the previous year. According to the data, nearly 21% of the students that are studying in the country are Indian.

Moreover, Minister Counsellor for Public Diplomacy, Gloria Berbena, mentions that “It’s clear Indian students and their parents recognise the value of a US education, one that prepares them to leverage their newly gained knowhow to tackle the world’s challenges and readies them for future opportunities.”

Further, it has been noted that Indian students are assisted by the US Department of State, where they get advice both virtually and in person. These counselling sessions are offered to students at eight Education USA advising centres, including New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and two in Hyderabad.

The EducationUSA India app, available for free on iOS and Android mobile devices, is a great resource for students and their families who want to find out more about studying in the United States. Through this app, students and their families can get the latest information about the college application process.

The reports also reveal that most of the international students at US universities are enrolled in pre-academic Intensive English programmes. Meanwhile, the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) promotes global understanding through collaborations between the public and private sectors and guiding programmes, as well as academic, cultural, sports, professional, and business exchanges.

Every year, around 50,000 students participate in ECA’s various exchange programmes, including the Fulbright Programme and the International Visitor Leadership Programme.
